DRR Competencies

Posted on October 1, 2009 at 2:00 3 Comments

I'm currently working in the Philippines on various DRR projects with schools and am wondering what DRR competencies have been developed. So many DRR activities are undertaken and that's good. But what are the competencies that these projects/activities are based on? Have some been developed? If so, where would I find them? I'd love to hear from folks, especially about DRR competencies related to schools. Thanks for any help you can give me. Beryl Cheal

thanks again for helping in the DRR work in the Philippines. Your contribution to the development of the DRR competencies listed in the "Seeds of Safety" will surely go a long way. I really enjoyed learning and working with you, especially on illuminating the role of teachers in the healing process of children after a disaster. I hope that we can continue working through virtual means. Cheers on your return to your home.

Welcome Beryl. Actually there is a lot of work that has been done in Japan along these lines with hazard mapping of communities! If you look on my blog there is a video clip that I posted called "Effective Education for DRR - It's NOT Rocket Science..." which shows very young children learning about the dangers in their community, but I also know of others across Japan as well! I hope this helps!
