An alternative I'm proposing for hosting is moving the content to GitHub as a GitHub Pages site (i.e. Jekyll format). The intention is that aside from the initial effort, there is no ongoing cost. And it's still possible to get contributors and conversation, by adding people as GitHub collaborators, and by embedding Disqus comments. Or it might become an archive site, it's still so much better than letting it go entirely.
The domain is the easier part. Even if the domain is let go, the subdomain (i.e. edu4drr.github.io) is good enough and is also sufficient for SEO.
